For those retailers and designers who tour multiple rug showrooms each market, almost everyone has the same answer when asked about the best-selling colors. Spoiler: It's almost always gray and blue or just neutrals.

Not surprisingly, consumers prefer colors that can match with just about any design, but looking at the latest rug intros coming to High Point Market next month, manufacturers must be seeing an increased demand for bold colors and patterns.

Before you get to High Point Market next month (April 6-10), get a sneak peek at the latest rug intros hitting the floor and see how they fit into a larger trend story.

Elka rug with a medallion design and tassels from Loloi RugsLoloi Rugs — Elka Area Rug

Last fall, Loloi Rugs introduced a new collection with Rifle Paper Co., and the patterns and prints were anything but neutral. Big flowers, tons of color and eye-catching designs, the collection had a Millennial vibe with its accompanying pillows featuring dog designs and nods to popular cities. Although there were a few neutrals in the collection, the bright colors stole the show.

Now enter Elka, a new introduction coming to High Point Market this spring. Elka continues that trend of bold colors, but an approachable pattern. Tassels have also made a comeback on rugs, and Elka is no exception.

This market, Annie Selke will be introducing a new rug, bedding pillow collection with artist Laura Park, and from what's been shown thus far, the new introductions are anything but neutral. Park's new collection includes abstract works with loose patterns to ground them. Bright colors mix with pastels to create designs that hold up in high-traffic areas.

Shiloh, one of the new intros, is a hand-knotted jute rug that has a plush, soft feel, but it's made sustainably to stand up in high-traffic areas of the home. For rooms sorely lacking in color, this rug provides more than enough.

Catalina palm frons area rug in bright colors from KAS Rugs

KAS Rugs — Catalina Area Rug

KAS' Catalina Collection has always featured big, contemporary floral patterns, but previous introductions haven't been quite as bold as the newest expansions of the collection hitting High Point Market this spring. Where previous designs leaned more traditional, these new prints definitely have a tropical vibe.

Enter the Mist Key West area rug. The leaves pop with color as purples and blues and pinks and greens mix. Though the print leans towards a coastal or tropical vibe, the rug itself doesn't feel locked into those designs.

Province blue and orange area rug from Jaipur LivingJaipur Living — Province Area Rug

At the summer markets in 2017, it was had to miss the splashes of orange making their way onto rugs. Orange appeared in traditional, abstract and patterned designs, and now we're seeing an evolution of that here in the Province area rug from Jaipur Living.

Though orange is still somewhat popular, lately manufacturers have been pairing it with blue to really make it pop. On this rug, blue and orange combine on this classic Juniper motif. Unlike previous styles above, this one definitely leans more traditional in design, though the bright blue stands out.
