The H Foundation will introduce the inaugural Guiding Light Award, recognizing leaders from the lighting industry for their support, at the 17th annual Goombay Bash in Chicago on July 29.

The tropical-themed party held at Navy Pier draws more than 1,000 attendees each year to raise money for cancer research. Over the last 16 years, the H Foundation has raised $7 million.

"As the event has grown, this definition of community has broadened, driven by the individuals and businesses with direct connections in our day-to-day lives,” said H Foundation Board President and Owner of Horton's Home Lighting in LaGrange, John Rot. “Since our very first event, the lighting industry has made a substantial difference in the dollars raised and support given to basic science cancer research."

The Guiding Light Award will be presented to the following lighting companies: Generation Brands, Hinkley, Kichler, Quoizel, Satco and WAC Lighting. The companies will be honored for their long-term commitment to The H Foundation and recognized for their efforts to fund cancer research. In the future, the award will be given annually to the individual who works toward the mission of The H Foundation.

"The award epitomizes the leadership qualities of those who would guide others towards a brighter future in which no one will suffer the hardships of this horrible disease," Rot said. "It celebrates the community spirit that has used ingenuity to shine a spotlight on and raise money for basic science cancer research."

This year’s Goombay Bash is set to run from 5 p.m. to midnight and will feature celebrity guests, a live and silent auction, a gourmet buffet and cash bar and a fireworks finale. For more details, visit www.goombaybash.com.
