The Mango Foundation, the non-profit organization supporting environmental sustainability, has planted 5,000 more trees with its newest partner, One Tree Planted. The major milestone was done in conjunction with its for-profit partners, Home Trends & Design and World Interiors.

The plantings, which are occurring around the world, are done to offset the environmentally exploitative practices in place in the global furniture industry and work towards creating a better, cleaner world.

“This is just one small step,” said Mango Foundation founder Hank Cravey. “It is just one milestone of many on the long road that leads to greener pastures.  We plan on repeating this effort on an ongoing basis.”

In 2015, the Mango Foundation partnered with another non-profit, TreeFolks, in order to facilitate the replanting of the Bastrop County forest in Texas, which was devastated by forest fires. This partnership, combined with the efforts of over 1,500 volunteers, allowed for the planting of over 1.3 million trees over the course of three years.

Studies by the U.S. Department of Agriculture show that one mature tree absorbs 48 pounds of carbon dioxide every year. This means that the trees planted by the Mango Foundation will absorb a total of 240,000 pounds of carbon dioxide annually, Cravey said. This also serves to minimize the carbon footprint of the Mango Foundation’s for-profit partners, the home furnishings companies World Interiors and HT&D.

In addition to its commitment to bettering the environment via planting one tree for every table sold, the Mango Foundation and its partners are equally committed to using sustainably sourced, eco-friendly materials for every piece they manufacture, from the base all the way to the finish.

“This reduces the off-gassing during production and within the home, making the furniture both eco-friendly and family-friendly,” Cravey added.
