This year, the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) launched the Salon by KBIS space, a new section of the show dedicated to artisan, small-batch and international companies with something interesting and fresh to offer. If you toured the space, then you probably noticed one design starting to gain steam: mosaic design.

Showing for the first time, Elegant Mosaics and West Coast Mosaics provide designers and retailers with the opportunity to create beautiful mosaic designs in a variety of colors and styles to fit nearly any space. With these companies, mosaic designs are becoming easier to customize.

Learn more about these companies and how they're giving designers and retailers license to get creative with mosaic design.

Elegant Mosaics

As backsplashes become more colorful and homeowners want their bathrooms to have that luxurious, spa-like feel, tile has become a vehicle for self-expression. And that's where Elegant Mosaics fits. Launched just last year by two brothers, Elegant Mosaics helps designers and retailers to create gorgeous tile patterns for floors and walls.

Elegant supplies pre-designed tile sheets and can do custom jobs as well. All the tile sheets are made in Arizona, which allows for quick shipping. In fact, all shipping order in the U.S. are free and ship within 24 hours, and the company has a quick-ship program with over 400 SKUs. This year, the company is also launching exclusive designer collections with Donna Moss, Rachel Moriarty and Sarah DeAnna.

For designers especially, Elegant's custom offerings could be their new best friend. The company's new Design, Play & Create program provides designers with a grid as well as mosaic tiles and buttons that they can then play around with and create their own tile designs. Once finished, Elegant will produce the tile sheets needed for the project. Best of all? It's only a two-week lead time.

So what's popular at Elegant now? Co-founder Sam Cohen says grays and blues continue to be popular, but in the near future, Elegant will have custom color offerings, so designers can send a paint color sample to them and Elegant will produce their preferred design in that color.

West Coast Mosaics

The bathtub has shown wavering popularity among homeowners, according to Houzz's latest studies, but that doesn't mean homeowners are ditching it entirely. In fact, the oversized, free-standing tub has gained traction, and at KBIS, manufacturers have found new ways to turn the free-standing tub into a show-stopping part of the bathroom.

That's the aim of West Coast Mosaics. The newly launched company, based in California, creates gorgeous mosaic-covered bathtubs that have that coveted, spa-like feel to them. Be they free-standing or built-in, these tubs combine stone and glass tiles to create cool patterns that can be both functional and eye-candy — or just eye-candy.

At KBIS, West Coast Mosaics showed off its latest introduction: the gel-covered tub. The smooth gel coating covers the interior space of the tub, and on the outside, mosaic tiles in mother-of-pearl stood out against the gray gel.
