From brilliant backyards to parties on the go, food and beverage superstars, and fun ideas for the kids, millions of Pinners are searching, saving — and spending — ahead of the season of celebrations. According to an AdWeek article last week on the recently released Pinterest Trends report, “Pinners spend 10 percent more than non-Pinners, and are a key audience for advertisers, willing to spend what it takes to make summer fun.”
Pinterest encourages brands to get in on the action by sharing ideas. For those who spend their days surrounded by lighting and decor, it’s inviting to consider ways to market your products and services in creative ways this summer. And when it’s time to kick back and unwind, or bring your besties to the backyard, you’ll be prepared to make the most of a spectacular season.
Whether the weather is perfect or not, here’s what’s hot.
Top picks in the backyard essentials category entice even the novice host to consider entertaining. Globe bulbs and the wide range of outdoor illumination are keeping spirits bright, while Pinterest is seeing an upswing in the style of events: patio parties, stargazing parties (up 192 percent), beer garden parties (up 638 percent), and hanging daybeds are popular Pinner picks. It seems clear more people are warming up to lifestyle trends that focus on quality experiences at home.
What’s for Dinner?
When it comes to food, this season finds a variation on the traditional barbecue theme. Pinterest found more people into chicken than hot dogs, and strawberry desserts were 4x more popular than burger recipes. Seafood boils, because, seafood. Also making an explosion on the summer scene, with a 133 percent search increase, are grill bombs (think mini-meatloaf wrapped in an onion and grilled, or bacon-wrapped onion bombs), and picnic pies, to name a few. Having a blast with beverages, watermelon lemonade remains a hit, while big batch cocktails are appreciated by both guests and the host/hostesses who prefer not to be full-time bartenders. The search for white wine slushies shot up to a whopping 3,037 percent over the year, and pepper cocktails are all the rage for Pinners. Pinners are increasingly answering the call to the great outdoors, and planning parties on the go. Nature getaway search and saves on Pinterest increased 337 percent, as did the interest in reusable utensils, picnic in a jar, with a 346 percent increase, and outdoor drink holders that put the fun in function.
Child’s Play for Pinners
With school out for summer, and kids’ energy levels rising like a seaside tide, Pinners are picking and planning big fun. What’s trending? Summer craft parties and indoor camping soared 287 percent, and still appealing is an art form the whole family can enjoy: chalk art.
As the people behind the scenes at Pinterest see it, and as shared on one of their trend-spotting blogs, “People turn to Pinterest to get the most mileage out of their long summer days, searching for ideas on vacation getaways, outdoor entertaining and outfits to beat the heat.”
