The North American Home Furnishings Association (HFA) held its annual membership meeting Thursday, January 21. Usually, members would meet for breakfast at the January Las Vegas Furniture Market, but the postponement of that event required HFA to go virtual.

During the meeting, HFA members approved a new slate of officers to lead the association in 2021. Many positions were held over, with the following exceptions. Jesús Capó of El Dorado Furniture, after two years as HFA President, will assume the role of chairman of the board. “It has been an honor to work with the board and the HFA staff over the last two years. Together we helped members meet the challenges of the pandemic.”

David Gunn of Knight Furniture of Sherman Texas takes over as HFA’s new president. “I believe the association is positioned to strongly support our members and meet their changing needs in 2021”, Gunn said during the meeting.

Rounding out the 2021 officers, Stan Pickett, Quality Furniture, is president-elect, Travis Garrish, Forma Furniture is vice president, and Matt Schultz of John V Schultz becomes secretary/treasurer. Stepping up to the Executive Committee of the HFA board is Mitchell Stiles of Badcock and Lenny Kharitonov of Emma Mason.

During the meeting, Shannon Williams, HFA’s COO, shared that 270 new members joined the association during 2020, and HFA nearly doubled the number of new partners to better serve members. “The numbers tell us the struggles you face are real, and there is a growing need for solutions we can provide,” said HFA CEO Mark Schumacher. “I have tremendous confidence in our team and our strong board leadership to help members navigate 2021.”
