The natural grasscloth on the vaulted ceiling in this large great room brings warmth and intimacy to the space, as well as a touch of tropical texture. The ceiling fan keeps the air moving and gives the feeling of being at an island resort.

When choosing furnishings, we wanted to create an impression of classic design with a modern touch and clean lines. This client wanted the overall effect to be tailored, warm and welcoming.

I love the nautical simplicity of the shiplap wall and the wooden painted fireplace surround. It is very architectural at the end of this wide, open space. The mirror repeats the java finish on the rattan arm chairs and contrasts crisply with the white painted surface behind it. The planters hint at my love for blue and white pottery — fortunately my client shares the same obsession.
