Surya is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

The company will hold a series of events, contests and promotions throughout the year, with festivities kicking off at High Point Market on Sunday, April 17 at 6 p.m. in Surya’s showroom.

“We want to express our deepest gratitude to all of our valued customers who have put their trust in Surya during the past 40 years and continue to inspire us to greater heights,” said Satya Tiwari, President. “Our customers are the reason we strive to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the home décor market, and we never take them for granted. We know we must earn their business each and every day through hard work, determination and a passionate commitment to help them succeed – that’s what drives us. We can’t wait to see what the next 40 years will bring.”

Founded by Surya Tiwari in 1976, the company got its start as a maker of hand-knotted rugs with a mission to preserve traditional artisan craft and create a better life for families in rural India.

In 2006, Surya’s son, Satya Tiwari, was appointed President of the company. Satya tapped the underserved market of independent furniture dealers and interior designers by providing them with an entry into the emerging home accessories category.

The company has added new product categories each year since 2010 — expanding from rugs to pillows, throws, wall décor, accent furniture, lighting, decorative accents and bedding.

In May, Surya will move into a new, 1 million-square-foot headquarters and distribution center in Cartersville, GA.
