Now more than ever, consumers are seeking to imbue their homes with both comfort and luxury, looking for a sophisticated, yet warm and inviting ambiance. Lighting plays a significant role in creating these refined spaces. This new approach to design is often referred to as quiet luxury, to reflect this combination of charm, sophistication and superb craftsmanship.

Luxury Crystal Lighting Designs from Schonbek

“Crystal lighting is a good choice for adding a touch of luxury in a room,” says Andrew Schuyler, Senior Product Designer for Schonbek. “Whether that is a minimalist design or something more impressive or showy, we have chandeliers at both ends of the spectrum.”

Schonbek features high-end elegance and craftsmanship in a variety of crystal lighting styles to meet consumers’ desire for both sophistication and warm personal expression. “It’s easy to have more impact, because the difference between traditional lighting options and a beautiful chandelier design creates a dramatic shift in any room,” says Schuyler. The lighting designers at Schonbek are trendsetters that find inspiration everywhere — from branches and blooms in nature, to the latest trends in fashion and furniture.

Because the company is a U.S. manufacturer, new designs can be created quickly to keep up with trending tastes in lighting. Unlike other manufacturers that work with third-party vendors and need to plan years ahead of production, Schonbek is able to execute quick turnarounds. “If there is something we see in the field, we can often have drawings completed the same day and prototypes in a few weeks,” according to Director of Sales Robert Lefleur.

That level of agility allows Schonbek to produce lighting that addresses the growing desire for quiet luxury — in homes, businesses and even outdoor spaces. “Now, with the renewed interest in crystal and the emergence of LED, we’ll be seeing this type of lighting in baths, vanities, gardens and more,” says Product Designer Roslyn Yando. “There are just many more applications where you can use it now.”

A recent introduction — a first for Schonbek — was an outdoor crystal collection made possible in part by a partnership with WAC Lighting, which has been making exterior luminaires for decades. The luxurious Schonbek Beyond outdoor lighting casts dancing beams of light when illuminated by its color temperature-adjustable, hidden LEDs. The lights in this collection are finished in a specially formulated, marine-grade powder coat paint to resist UV and coastal environmental conditions.

The Move to Softer Design

Throughout history, crystal chandeliers have been used to fashion interior spaces with formal elegance. Nowadays, however, customers are slowly moving away from hard edges and instead are seeking to incorporate curves and a warmer feel while preserving a luxurious ambience.

Siena, for example, is a Schonbek lighting collection that mixes handcrafted metal and highly faceted crystal, rounding off the edges to create a beautifully symmetrical, yet less angular shape than that traditionally associated with chandeliers. This adds a lovely, engaging focal point to a room.

Schonbek’s Bali line takes chandeliers to a new, modern level, in this exotic transformation of the Louis XIV Empire style with Polynesian influences. Drapes of bamboo garland in dimensional finishes and asymmetric crystals come alive when internally illuminated with discreet LEDs.

Linear chandeliers, a wall sconce and even a new fandelier-style ceiling fan display vining blossoms that portray grace and renewal — the cyclical order of life everlasting.

Whether the customer has a vertical space to illuminate — such as an entryway — or a long, horizontal space like a dining table, there are many innovative lighting solutions available to create a definite “wow factor.”

Crystal chandeliers no longer have to be traditional and formal. With tastes trending to more interesting shapes and modern designs, customers can still decorate with flair while embracing the personal expression that defines quiet luxury, all with the help of Schonbek luxury crystal lighting.
